Re: Filks: Whatever happened to them?

professional filking bands happened.

granted, filking's been on its way out since the early 2000s, when anime fandom crept up and overwhelmed scifi, because anyone who'd never been to a scifi con never even heard of nor conceived of writing silly fandom lyrics to pop songs. but once I started to hear about wizard rock, pirate rock, and every other iteration of nerd rock in fandom circles, with bands putting out whole albums and building tours around their filking and performing as guests at cons, it feels like just-for-kicks filking really died.

no loss in my case, I think filking is dumb the same way I hate puns.
