I actually just talked to my roomie when this happened, because she wanted to get a new couch, but had WAY more money than I did, and I was afraid this could be a problem.

It was stressful, but talking to her about it made it all clear what she expected (mainly, that no, she would cover the whole couch, and while we both used it, it would be HER couch) and I was able to chill out about it.
