I went to a couple Girlscout camps in the late 80s when I was a kid, but they were only for a few days. We did the whole outdoors/crafts thing and slept in cabins. When I was a pre-teen/teen, I did more themed camps which weren't at all outdoorsy and usually involved staying in college dorms. Presently, my nephews do tent camping for Boyscouts, so it's still a thing. But a lot depends on your geographical location and socio-economic factors.
