Re: Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites

It had tracking in the game. So when you used the app it would give you an estimate of how far away the Pokemon was and what direction to go in. The in game tracking is gone. Now the hunting site is gone. So if you want to find Pokemon now you have to travel aimlessly.

You can still see nearby Pokemon. They didn't take that away. It's exactly the same as it has been for the past week or two, they just took away the footprints since that was broken anyway.

Well no. Tracking sites are broken now too. So...

I feel like they should have fixed the footprints, though, instead of just getting rid of them.

And I also heard that they cut down the overall radar distance though I'm not sure if that's true.

I barely even realized there was a way to track pokemon before. I always just traveled aimlessly and picked up whatever I stumbled across. That was the game to me. I heard about other people trying to track down where exactly a certain pokemon was but that just sounded frustrating to me.

But I take your point about something being taken away from the game. That does answer my question about how people can possibly deserve a refund because something that was unaffiliated with the creators is gone.

it's not about the side sites being shut down (though they temporarily made up for the failure of the game's tracking) it's that Niantic had an essential feature and removed that feature

tracking is essential to the gameplay, just because you've done fine "stumbling upon" things doesn't mean that's how the game is supposed to function, and was promised to function.

Is there some statement from the company stating definitively how the game is supposed to function? The fact that they took this feature away suggests that they don't think it's essential, but I don't know if they put out any statements contradicting that. It sounds like there's a lot of people who have decided that the way they prefer to play is the way it's supposed to be played, but I've heard nothing from the people who made it.

I'm not seeing anything on the website that suggests they expected people to spend time tracking specific pokemon the way people did with the hunting sites.

there's no statement from Niantic on anythig because they're a shit company with awful communication. but the teaser trailer for GO featured arrows pointing in the direction of pokemon, and meter distance (which was in the original beta version). because the beta version's meters were often off, they switched to footprints as representations of distance, they later said measuring that distance was putting strain on the servers, so everything became three "footprints" away until they could fix it. since they've removed the footprints all together with NO communication about fixing the issue or finding a replacement, a lot of people are rightly pissed off. instead of finding a solution to the problem, they just deleted the feature and aren't speaking to their customers at all.

...again, not sure how many times I have to repeat this, I'm not talkig about side sites, I'm talking about the in-game tracker.

the weird thing is I still have three footprints on all my Pokemon. (not that it makes any functional difference, but it's odd. And my apps are set to auto-update)
