Re: Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites

It's really not cheating, though. It doesn't make Pokémon appear or make them easier to catch/catch them for you. It just shows you where they are - you still have to go to the site, walk around until they pop up, and then try to catch them. There's no guarantee that you'll be able to catch them at all.

It's cheating because it's part of the game to find them yourself. Knowing where they are defeats like half the point of the game.

If that's cheating, then having someone else tell you where a Pokémon is also counts as cheating, yet that happens in meatspace all the time. Hell, just the other day I was walking around looking for a Meowth and some guys pointed me in the right direction. So is that also cheating since I didn't find it myself?

LOL. Let's see, when I have friends who have visited certain areas of the city and have literally TOLD ME that that is where certain pokemon spawn all the time (and this was before we even knew about PokeVision), wouldn't that be considered cheating, according to this ridiculous logic?

In fact, there's one park in particular, next to our zoo, that spawns the most Charmander. I was TOLD that by a fellow coworker.

I ran to the other side of the block because my coworker told me there was a grimer. Would have done the same thing with the map.

If I don't have a specific area to check I'm not going. I'm over walking around in an ever increasing circle for a "nearby Pokemon" and getting nothing but bats. I just won't go.

This. That is not fun. Exercise is good, but walking around aimlessly (especially by yourself) =/= fun.
