Re: Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites
(Anonymous) 2016-07-31 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)And no, it isn't meaningless. Niantic is selling things like Incense and Lure Modules for real money, things people theoretically use to help them go catch Pokemon. By knowing exactly where the Pokemon are, you are not only reducing the need for these items, you are not playing the game as it is intended.
I don't see how you can even argue with a straight face that it isn't cheating. If I use hacking codes to make certain Pokemon appear when I play the Game Boy Pokemon games, that's cheating- without any sense of competition. You're talking about a very similar concept - the ability to get to Pokemon without having to find them yourself, when walking around finding Pokemon is LITERALLY the concept behind the game.
Re: Niantic shut down pokemon hunting sites
Not sure what you even mean by this question?? They are part of the gameplay, just as much as walking around and finding Pokemon, and evolving them, and all the other aspects. To some people they are the main reason they play!
(It occurs to me some context is missing here. This is a tangent to the "cheating" aspect of the thread; it's me pointing out that PokeGo has a competitive aspect as well as a personal aspect.)
Incense and Lure Modules just cause more Pokemon to exist than previously existed. People have still been using them. Not gonna change the fact that there's a Pikachu or something else rare on their radar that they can't find.
"Cheats" refer to hacks or codes you an put into a game to get a result outside the normal parameters, but I really do not think it's "cheating" in the moral sense of the word when someone does something like that in a handheld Pokemon game. If that's the way they want to play, it's on them. (Note: I'm not talking about people who use hacks to get better competitive Pokemon. That's definitely cheating.)

Seriously, you need to shut the fuck up.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-01 04:42 am (UTC)(link)i mean, if you want to talk about having an increased chance of gathering pokemon for candies, people who live in cities have a huge advantage over everyone else. my friends from big cities are already over level 20 just from playing casually because there are so many pokemon and pokestops around them.
