Re: The Hobbit
I personally wasn't even that sad about the whole thing until the ending song. Because damn, both the lyrics and the fact that it was Billy Boyd singing it killed me. Because not only was it a very pretty song and very fitting for the movie, it also was a perfect song to end all the Tolkien movies with. And I didn't even really like the way they handled a lot about the Hobbit movies, but it still had this sad, melancholic end of an era feel to it and... bwah. (Sorry for rambling haha.)

No, I totally get your rambling!

I understand the “end of an era" feel because I was definitely more sad once the movies had ended, knowing there wouldn't be anymore live action Tolkien. And, yea, The Hobbit films did A LOT of things wrong, but that didn't stop me from feeling disappointed that the ride was over, and that PJ and company wouldn't have a chance to “do a better job next time”.

Hearing Billy's voice got me all choked up too, and really brought me back to the start. It was a smart decision on their parts to include him, and such a gorgeous song!

(However, I was sobbing during Thorin's death because I'm a sap, and I adored the tragic romance of Thorin and Bilbo. That relationship was one of the things I thought the films did right.)

His death was a sad scene but I think the main reason I didn't feel it was the company I was with - a friend and her younger sister (of whom the latter never. shuts. up. during movies. It kills and mood.).

Oh, I absolutely understand that. I've had movie moments ruined for me by interruptions too. If you can't focus, how are you supposed to care?

I think one or the other quiet comments once in a while are alright but people who keep a running commentary going (especially if they think they are just so damn witty and funny) suck big time. Especially if you consider the price of cinema tickets atm. I didn't pay all that money to get a bad live MST3K performance damn it.
