Harry Potter

I honestly think a lot of the fans who complain every time JKR says something, how much it sucks that there's a play, etc. are just upset that Harry/Draco isn't canon and that Ron and Ginny aren't dead. A million years later.

I don't mean people who just don't like some of her backstory - I don't like some of her Pottermore stuff, and the play isn't terrible, but it's flawed. However, there's that, and there's "well, she's ruined my Hermione/Greyback fic." THAT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE CANON, so why do you care?

Snape fen are the absolute worst about this.

Have you seen any reactions from Snape fen to the play? I read it last night and thought Snape came off pretty well in it.

All the Snape fen I know hate the play's existence on principle and wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I thought Snape was fine in the play, too.

Why do they hate it?

Sorry, I don't. I used to but I deleted it a while back in a fit of irritation at my past self. I'd add you if I hadn't.

Aaaa yes agreed so hard.

I really like the people that I tend to talk about Harry Potter with, they're really smart and cool, but at times, it just gets frustrating how much of the discussion is predicated on the belief that Ron was boring and Ginny was a bad romantic character. And it's just this, like, totally reflexive, assumed belief, and I don't share it, and it is just very wearing.

I like Ron and Ginny. I like Harry and Ginny's relationship. I don't mind Ron and Hermione getting together. It's fine.

So "cursed child" evidently has shipping potential, which some people are wondering if it's yet another wink-wink-nudge-nudge Dumbledore thing.

AND IT'S 2016 AND THE REST OF THE FANTASY FICTION WORLD DOES LGBTQ BETTER THAN SLASHY SUBTEXT ALREADY!

As an LGBTQ person I actually prefer the subtext most of the time (or mostly subtext with reveal at some point) because most LGBTQ characters are all about "lookitme! I'm gay! Gaaaay! Hello!"
Not all of them, sure, but to me Dumblydore was like learning your uncle was gay. Or like learning Ellen Page was gay. Kinda "Oh, sure. Makes sense." I like that. It's so normal.

It's 2016, and most of the fantasy fiction world is doing better than that as well.
