I get what mean completely. Sometimes I think fandoms little spin on the character is more interesting than canon, especially in cases where fans give more depth to a character than canon ever did. So yeah, I think it's a lot easier to love the fanon version of characters more than canon versions especially when fandom cares more about a character than their own writers do.
