I think gay and lesbian romance fiction should not be written by anyone the opposite gender of the protagonists, though I make an exception if it's someone who's trans writing. I can't say anything for lesbian fiction but I get really angry looking at all the gay male romance books and seeing female authors or people who I think are female writing. I don't want to read about gay men through a woman's lens. Ever. It's our space, not yours.

Never mind that the gay written fic I've found isn't all that great either. I mean, when the smut on Nifty.org feels more correct than a non-self-published professional novel...

Lesbians, is it easier for you to find good F/F romance fiction?

Hmm I'm a lesbian and I think its a little easier to find stuff written by women, because usually they are coming from publishing houses where that is all they do. And I think, while queer women are DEFINITELY fetishized, they are less likely to be fetishized in the form of books, I assume cause straight men are discouraged from reading romance novels and the like?

I wonder is anyone has explored the difference between gay male fetishization (more likely in written form ime) and gay women fetishization (more likely in visual form ime)

I can find lesbian fiction if I dig hard enough but "good"? Eh. Sometimes it's either/or.

I've read just as many terrible gay fiction novels by gay men as I have by gay/straight/ace women.

I'm sorry, I can't agree that 'if it's not your space you don't get to write in it'. This is why so many people feel uncomfortable writing outside their race/religion, because even with proper care and research and the time spent making things true to life and not stereotypes/racist/etc, you still have someone saying, "HDU.'"

Also, so many author names are initials/gender neutral (or specifically gendered pen names), I hardly ever know the true sex/gender of an author, and I don't care.
