My husband (back when he was my boyfriend) loved it when I picked him flowers and got all misty-eyed and everything. He wouldn't describe himself as sentimental either, but... *shrugs* He'd also love a moonlit picnic walk.

Can you cook? Making a nice dinner and dessert is always good, IMO, because you get a lot more bang for your buck than you usually do from going out to a restaurant.

I forgot to mention, he wants me to travel to his city and his house for the occasion, so it'll be hard to cook for him and make it a surprise etc. Especially as he's sharing a house with other people, so not much room for privacy with that. I suggested we at least split a hotel but he doesn't seem interested :/

Cooking is a great idea otherwise though. I might bake him something if it will last the long journey down. :)

That would work. A special cake or a batch of his favorite cookies. :)

If you're a good cook (like I am) that tends to go over well. A guy also reacted very sweetly to my giving him a single rose.
