I'm not angry about it but I don't count them as explicitly gay. Subtext just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I grew up the most oblivious person in the world. My rule is that if I wouldn't have seen it while I was in denial then it doesn't count.

It felt like pretty deliberate "the kids these days love when the guys are friends right on the edge of gay but not quite!"

I'm not saying it's Crucial. I'm saying there's a difference b/w gay and straight couples when it comes to UST vs. romance, because gay representation is so lacking.

I don't even think they read as queer.

You know what I think would have been dumb?

Two 14-year-old boys both knowing and admitting, without a shadow of a doubt, that they're gay.

But yeah, OK, representation at all costs.
