My husband's hard to buy things for, but this year I got a pair of really excellent audio headphones. He was in bliss - spent hours rediscovering his favourite music. Not an obviously romantic gift, but I honestly think I couldn't have done better.

In general, a good gift = something you know the other person likes/craves/is tempted by, but would never consider buying for themselves because they classify it as too big an indulgence.

This! A romantic gift doesn't need to be super fancy or anything. Hell, I got my girlfriend a good quality infuser water bottle about a month ago because I knew she wanted one. It's not exactly the kind of thing that you'd see given to someone as part of a grand romantic gesture in a movie or anything, but she loves that damn thing and she appreciated that I got her something that she would actually use on a regular basis
