According to the latest National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyle, 33. 8% of men and 44.4% of sexually active young women – almost half – don’t enjoy sex because they experience pain and anxiety

bullshit

I mean, I'm not saying the figures are necessarily right, but do you have any account of why they're wrong

Eh I won't blame them too much for that. But i'm thinking in the vein of 'hey, am I doing this right for my partner' and less fearmongering.

It's interesting you say that because I've seen threads here recently where an overwhelming majority of commenters said they struggle with sexual anxiety and painful intercourse.

Not saying FS is indicative of the wider population, just that it seems true of this place.

It's probably been a problem with previous generations, it just wasn't talked about as much or in those same terms.

It looks like they specifically say (when you click on the links) that is a study of people 16-21 (looks like around 1500 people, I'm just skimming this though) which, like, I didn't become sexually active until 21 but I feel that often for young people they haven't figured out what is good yet

i agree with the other commenter that this is a thing among all generations its just never been studied

That puts it in a different perspective. We need to introduce a new generation name for the teens of today because "millennial" also encompasses people in their early-mid 30s and I tend to think "20s and early 30s" when I hear people talking about millennials.

Yeah, I would say in some ways they are misrepresenting the study - as often happens with surveys about sex.

That distinction definitely makes a difference and the author used that information in a way that was very misleading.

...then again, it is the guardian so I'm not sure why I'm surprised tbh

In fairness to the Guardian, this is in response to an Internet kerfuffle caused by another article that reported it that way. So it had already been framed in that way before they wrote about it.
