It was 102 degrees yesterday and I think my air conditioning is broken but I'm too embarrassed by my messy apartment to call maintenance until I've cleaned. But I'm too hot and overwhelmed by the mess to clean.

It's not as bad as my parents and sister's house, which is just wall to wall stuff with a carpet of clothes, junk and trash, but this isn't the way I wanted to live.

But it's also the way I grew up. We could never have people at the house, because mom was too embarrassed too.

OK, I don't know why I'm telling this all to FS but I think I have a plan of action. My timer is going off at 8:45. Then from 8:45 to 9 I'm going to focus on 1/3 of my living room and just do what I can to make it presentable. The next 15 minutes will be the second third and and the next will be the third. Then I'm going to spend a half hour on my kitchen, then I'm calling my landlord. Alarms are set to keep me moving. I'll close off the other rooms and do spot checks until maintenance gets here or I need to leave to go shower at the gym (because god my bathtub, too) and he to work at noon.

I just hate that it's like this. I always say that if I could just get everything ship shape once, I could jeep it that way (and be healthier because I'd cook more too) I can just never seem to get there.

From a fellow hoarder slob--good luck. Also, forgive me for asking, but what's wrong with your bathtub? Bathroom, I get--I need to sweep, mop, and scrub mine and it'll take a couple of hours, but I routinely clean my tub since I have a roommate who never gets rid of hairballs and conditioner slime, or when she dyes her hair, hair dye residue. To be fair I've been known to come in from gardening and wash mud off, or dump fabric dye baths down the drain. So my cleaning the tub goes --pull disgusting hair/conditioner greaseball out of drain, throw it away. Get naked, get in the tub, turn on the shower, kick water around (if you have one of those adjustable showerheads wetting down the tub is easier--and spray the tub with cleaner. Keep pulling hair out of the drain as it builds up, get out a sponge and scrub down the tub from the back to the drain, spray down the tub again. Then stand up, soap down, wash yourself and hair, and get out of your clean tub. It takes like 10 minutes.

Good luck.

There's just so much grime buildup that it's disgusting. I got enough done today to feel reasonably comfortable calling maintenance and someone should be here soon.

Most of my stuff is just mail that I need to shred because I'm too paranoid to just throw it away. (Pre-approved credit, bills, etc.)
