Depends on how long after the apocalyse you are, how much has been rebuilt, etc, but if you're just post-apocalypse and/or the war is still sort of ongoing a-la Terminator or what have you ... Generally, dirt, lack of hygiene and scarcity of supplies are the things I'd look for, like people being happy about finding small things or reminiscing about things they used to be able to get but can't now. If there's still an active enemy, then details like if/when it's safe to go out, little mentions of areas or activites that people avoid now because it's not safe, if you have an established community/encampment then things like evacuation procedures and little defensive details. Scarcity, consciousness of safety and ability to find supplies, if there's still a threat then a feeling of entrapment/claustrophobia.
