Honestly, what I haven't ll that often read yet, is sort of the "quiet" moments, but that would work most with a setting where a lot of mankind has gone extinct. But like, the sort of hopelessness of being in an abandoned supermarket with food that has gone bad - and there's no zombies, no gangs trying to rob you, just sort of the realization that this is it: the end of civilization. Obviously that's just an example, but moments like that.
