Back on LJ I saw many popular authors jump ship to new fandoms the moment the reviews in the old one started to dry up, not the other way around, so much. Or if they were really inspired by a new fandom they'd test the waters a bit but if a large part of their following didn't follow suit they'd go back.

This was especially pronounced in the SMT fandom. It was tiny and everybody knew one another so occasionally you'd get this random BNF writing an (often very OOC) fic to see if it'd stick, which would get more reviews than anything else in the entire fandom to date from people nobody'd ever heard of. But when they didn't get the same caliber of adulation out of it as SPN or the other big hitters, they'd always leave after a few fics for greener pastures.

Only fandom I know with that abbreviation is Shin Megami Tensei, a game series.
