harsh but honest? : "sweet" might just be what people say when they don't have anything particularly noteworthy to say about someone, positive or negative. You may just be hanging out with people who you don't jive with--your interests are different, your sense of humor is different, whatever it is--so while they don't dislike you, you don't really stand out as someone they're really excited to hang out with.

Maybe just think about finding people you can connect with better--I know that's vague, but it might just be a matter of seeking out people who aren't the ones you know "by default" (family, school/work friends, etc.). Think about the things you like to do, the level of engagement/energy you like in a group of friends, etc. You might look for some groups that could connect you with people who are more your style.
