I failed my road test three times and still don't have a drivers license. I really wish I could just move somewhere with decent public transportation and never deal with driving. But I need money to move, and I need a job to get money, and I need a car for a job since there is nothing within walking distance of my house.

Is there a specific part you've had trouble with?

I have a bad history of anxiety and paranoid delusions, so having someone literally right next to me watching and judging what I'm doing is incredibly stressful.

I thought I had finally got past it enough to get through the test because I was feeling okay on the last one, but apparently my Slightly Nervous face looked like Nervous Wreck to the examiner. She actually had me pull over so she could tell me to calm down. And that made me feel worse than ever and it went downhill from there. The annoying thing is this happens all the time. You know how people talk about Resting Bitch Face? I think I have Resting Cry Face. If I'm not smiling as hard as I can, I get people thinking I'm upset.

:((((( I'm sorry friend.

A question: did you take all three road tests in the same place/with the same person? I had to take three tests to pass mine, and for the third I went to a different town altogether. Just getting away from the roads where I'd fucked up before took away enough stress that I was able to pass the third time!

I did it in the same place each time but with different people and they all had me take different routes.

:///

Driving tests are hell, frankly--I had *massive* anxiety about mine, every single time. On the second one I may have actually made a left turn in front of an oncoming ambulance in my desperation to just get back to the starting point and let the (really unpleasant) test administrator out of my car. (I say "may have" because I genuinely don't remember clearly; I was quite stressed at the time.) So you have my sympathy, and my hope that you'll find a way to work all of this out.

I really wish I could just not deal with the whole thing anymore.

If it helps ease some worries, the examiner has almost certainly dealt with dozens of nervous drivers who've failed the test several times. It's very normal.

When I took the test the first time iirc there was about 15 people also taking the exam that day, and I was the only one taking it for the first time. The girl I was next to in line was on her seventh attempt. (I had to retake it after failing the parallel park section)
