Start with the very much traditional Vermouth.

Two scotches, a reasonable but cheap one for normal uses (a blend is probably best for this) and a respectably expensive one for special occasions (you want a single malt for this, at least 16 years old, I'd say an Islay or Highland malt). Do not go for Johnny Walker (in fact as a general rule do not go for any Diageo brands) it is just painfully cliche and something of a joke.

Get a bourbon too, just in case you get someone who is all patriotic about their alcohol.

A vodka, gin, dry sherry and ruby port are also key components. Throw in a couple of exotic things too, more for the look than any expectation that someone will drink them.

You'll want some mixers too of course. There are plenty to choose from, so just pick the ones that take your fancy. Angostura and grenadine are probably the ones that are most expected.
