No, she never before had that folks in Paris can be a bit on the rude side. She expected the things in Amélie to be authentic when it came to things like this. The best part of the story is that we're from an European country and Paris is not that far away from us, so it's not like she was harbouring delusions about things from a foreign continent.

Even over here a lot of us have heard that France can be beautiful and wonderful... as long as you don't go to Paris, that's where they keep all the assholes.

I've been to France, both Paris and other cities and never had a problem. Even as an American. It might help that I speak/understand a little French, though.

I speak and understand a LOT of French and at least the officials in Paris were abominably rude last time I visited.
