I am not a big het fan, but I know from other het fans that generally no matter how the female character is in canon, she becomes a sweet supportive yes-woman who exists only for him in fic.

You mean exactly like all the women in slash fic turn into yenta match makers whose only goal is to make sure the dudes live happily ever after? (baring the bitchy evil ex-girlfriend trope, of course).

Everything in fandom centers on (mostly white) men. It's just easier to pin point with slash fic.
