I just don't see this for Elrond though. It doesn't ring true to his character.

IA about that, but I'm just saying that the idea doesn't necessarily invalidate his other losses or relationships. Anyhow, the OP does say their headcanon is more about their own RL issues than the characters themselves.

I think it does invalidate the other relationships. Given the timing and what else he endured, I don't see leaving Arwen happily married as going to be something he would fade over, even if he knows he's never going to see her again. There were other moments that would be the last straw for him but they weren't. I can't see Arwen being that.
