(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)Also, as others have pointed out, AO3 isn't the only place to find fanfic online; it's just the easiest place to pull stats from because of the tagging system. The proportion of m/m to f/m fics may well be the complete opposite elsewhere (e.g. fanfiction.net, Tumblr, etc.), but it's pretty much impossible to get concrete numbers for those sites.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)I think things get skewed on AO3 because it was created by slash fans, heavily for slash fans, and advertised in slash-centric parts of fandom as a place where . So slash fans were the early adopters and the stats there skew towards slash.
