Same. I would rather there not be sexism in-universe as well as out-universe. If characters are being surprised by women being able to have accomplishments or knowing how to dress themselves, their universe is not the escapist fantasy I'm looking for.

Lol. I'm the opposite. I feel cheated and patronized when reading stories that have no sexism at all and women don't need to prove themselves against sexism men (and women).

This. I don't want or need a lecture in my fic. It's what i read for *fun*, not to wallow in all the shite that's fucked up in the real world.

Of course, people can write what they want to write, but I'm not gonna read that kind of lectury/After School Special stuff.

I feel that sort of commentary can fit in some settings, if it's a setting that has an apparent gender divide - like LotR. I expect a female warrior in LotR to be questioned, because it seems like a world where women are not warriors. However I expect that commentary to fit into the world - Middle-Earth doesn't have chainmail bikinis and it would be far more likely to have female warriors in a similar situation as Eowyn, where they dress up in armour and masquerade as a man.

Other worlds? D&D I don't expect much of anyone to turn a hair, though I give leeway for differing cultures in a given world. Dragon Age? Plenty of women warriors, and while there is slight differences in dialogue because of it, it doesn't over all cause much issue.

TL;DR If you're going to put that sort of commentary in, make it fit the world.

This comic is okay but it's somewhat burdened down by exactly what you are describing. It works better in the chapters that are less heavy handed.

I honestly can't think of very much fantasy that does this.

I get your point, but what might sound lecturing or patronizing to you can be an epiphany for someone else. They're aimed at someone who's never thought wait, why does armor for female characters have either giant tit-plates or barely any coverage at all? I don't think it's necessarily about saying older media is shit, it's just that for a lot of people, this is an entirely new way of thinking for them so creators can't always be subtle about making their point.
