Childcare and child raising is a job. Giving birth to a child and nothing further, which is technically being a mother, isn't.

Which do you mean by motherhood there?

Meh, I'd say labor and late pregnancy put enough of a strain in a person's body that it's fair to consider those a job.

But I think what you mean is that if you are not taking care of the kids, it's no longer a job, and I agree on that one.

Point taken, "child care" applies to pre-birth as well. And not everyone does it responsibly then either. :(
