What are you reading?

Books, fanfic, movies with subtitles.

Re-reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I'm back to Night Watch and trying to slow down my reading beacuse we are getting to the end and to the poorer books leading up to it. Maybe I'll even be able to bring myself to read the last book this time. I bought it when it came out, but I still cannot bring myself to read it and say that there are no more new Discworld novels still to read.

Just finished Linda Nagata's The Red which was pretty well-paced and action-packed, but it read like I was reading the script of a video game that I didn't get to play.

Then I read Jane Austen's Lady Susan because I like her prose, but damn, everyone in her books just fits the literal definition of First World Problems, don't they.

Also, Hemingway's Snows of Kilimanjaro - is Hemingway!Hater anon still here?

Fanfic-wise I've been mainlining MGS fics like it's my job because I was late to the TPP party and it's the last MGS game we're ever going to get... ...a nearly 30-year-old series, just... gone.

Evelyn Waugh 'An Officer and a Gentleman'. I just finished his 'Vile Bodies' the other day.

"Monster Hunter Grunge" by Larry Correia and John Ringo, which is exactly what it says on the packaging and so, so fun; and "Cursed" by Benedict Jacka, which series I started because Jim Butcher blurbed it, about a magic dude who can see the future (though it's a bit more complicated than that).

No Fire Can Ever Warm Me (Gen, Political Animals) http://archiveofourown.org/works/7453231 TJ is kidnapped by extremists who want to show the world their work. Doug is stuck as Chief of Staff, waiting for the real heroes to bring his brother home.

I was way too excited when I saw a long fic posted in a tiny fandom with extreme hurt/comfort of my favorite character.

Also, I am watching Twilight Zone with subtitles. Because I watch everything with subtitles.

I was so underwhelmed by The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nigt Time. Everyone I talked to loved it and thought it was brilliant, but I just found it meh.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V E Schwab. I've already read it and am rereading it because I loved it so much.

omg I LOVED THAT SO MUCH. Like a Chrestomanci book, but way more violent.

I just read it and the sequel and loved them (especially the 1st one, though)!

I'm reading every star trek novel I own in publication order. It's about 200 books. Damn you ST:B for rekindling my interest in Trek!

This:

http://archiveofourown.org/works/5815387?view_full_work=true

It's a Superman/Wonder Woman fic that starts with Clark being washed up on Themyscira and the first person he met was Diana.

I think I went looking for Supes/WW fic probably because of comic videos I have watched. I don't know, I had a craving.

I'm reading Between the World and Me on and off between other books. I think it's great but I find myself having to put it down to think about it and I also find it a bit emotionally exhausting.

Currently, nothing. I'm holding out for September's book club *fingers crossed*

I've made posters.

Lunch book: Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, wonderfully creepy and lovecraftian.

Nighttime: Spin State by Chris Moriarity, queer cyberpunk meets space.

Cold Skin by Albert Sánchez Piñol, The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery, and assorted Flannery O'Connor short stories.

I was going to read fanfic on my break from work, but I couldn't get my iBooks to like AO3!

I've read the first chapter of that dragon book for the FS book club to see, if I want to continue or not. There was a lot of eyerolling and a little bit of groaning and sighing involved. I'm definitely not the target audience for this. But I'll give it at least one or two chapters more, before I'll decide.

And I've recently read a Mycroft/Lestrade fic I really liked, which rarely happens, so yay :D
