Okay, someone check me on this, are all Marvel movies MCU, or is the MCU its own independent thing? I am so not certain of this, and just want to get it straight.

(I uh. May have watched ALL the old Fantastic Four movies. And want to know if that counts as MCU or not.)

MCU is separate from Marvel movies as a whole. Example: Deadpool is a Marvel movie but it's not connected to the MCU in any way, same with the X-Men movies and the old Fantastic Four ones.

It's basically a lot of kerfuffle because they're Marvel characters but belong to different movie studios for film-use.

Okay, that jives with what I've heard elsewhere but was unsure about. Does DC have a similar thing, or are all DC movies still in the same category?

I think all the DC movies are in the same universe since WB has the rights all the characters so I don't believe they have the same ownership issue.
