I dunno, while I've always preferred Marvel, I'd rather just have another good superhero flick.

Me too. It is great mostly because of how much whining some of the fans do. WAHHHH LET'S START A PETITION TO SHUT DOWN ROTTENTOMOTOESSSS!! WAHHHHHH LET'S SUE DC FOR NOT HAVING MORE JOKER. WAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.

^ This. The temper tantrums have been bizarre to watch.

MCU fans are just as annoyingly smug for having a bunch of mediocre movies outside of Iron Man 1, Winter Soldier, GOTG, and Ant-Man.

Team no one TBH.

MCU fans have a right to be smug. Even their most mediocre movie is better than the DCU's best movie. It's hilarious.

Numbers-wise, I think Marvel has done better which is all that matters, but one thing that confuses me now is the constant "DC movies are so dark" jibe, because Marvel movies (and the TV shows, especially Daredevil) are starting to match in tone.

You're a bit too stringent for my tastes; I'd add CA:TFA, Thor, and The Avengers to that list. Of course, that means by my standards half of MCU films are good, while even by your more exacting standards almost a third of them are good.

I agree that the smugness isn't wholly warranted, but it's also not wrong to say that a significant number of Marvel films are getting something right that DC films just aren't. (At least not yet. I'm holding out hope for Wonder Woman, and Justice League might pleasantly surprise me.)

I lol'd at the director in an interview going "WOW Harley is so ANTI PC and says things people are UNCOMFORTABLE WITH" but shock of shocks with a PG13 movie there was nothing even remotely ~~~~offensive.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Harley Quinn is like. The most un-PC character since her inception as Paul Dini's and Bruce Timm's spank bait. I don't get why that shocks people.

I like DC so mostly it just makes me sad, I hoped that they'd have a good shot at the superhero genre as well but seems like they just want to rush it instead.

Granted I did at least enjoy Suicide Squad so I'm more hopeful towards the movies that aren't directed by Snyder.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
SS was always kind of an offbeat property to adapt anyway. It's guaranteed to make money, and there were elements I like that I'm hoping will get developed in future films.

I didn't enjoy Captain America: Civil War to be honest. I felt that there were too many things going on and I could never tell who was evil or bad. It also doesn't help that I'm not a big Tony Stark fan and I found him irritable in this film.

By contrast, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had a much stronger plot compared to Civil War.

I feel this. I LOVE DC characters and a wiiiide array of their back catalogue but I am so not into their movies and they just seem hell-bent on going in exactly the direction I don't want them to go in. So when a lot of other people seem to agree with me, I am like GOOD. SEE? GOOD!!!

(Anonymous) 2016-08-12 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's very mature of you.

But the way you misspelt Schadenfreude made for a hilarious pun, so I'm willing to forgive you,

[personal profile] iggy 2016-08-12 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Not schadenfreude, because well, I mean I'd LOVE good movies featuring some of these characters, but there is definitely a level of 'I told you so' because these have looked like disasters from the getgo, and yeah... they are.

Okay, someone check me on this, are all Marvel movies MCU, or is the MCU its own independent thing? I am so not certain of this, and just want to get it straight.

(I uh. May have watched ALL the old Fantastic Four movies. And want to know if that counts as MCU or not.)
