I do the same thing! I don't think it's vanity exactly (though obviously I could be biased) I just want to do my best when it's cooking/baking for other people.

Yeah I definitely have higher standards when I'm baking for other people and not just for myself. I just want them to enjoy it so I can make them happy. I guess that's not vanity really.
