Not in the crew, but two different fans in the fandom were almost driven to suicide, with one definite attempt (not sure about the other) - one was because (among a few other things) she drew Rose too thin, the other was about a ship.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: keep off the social media, and if you must have it, turn off anon asks. Jfc, this isn't rocket surgery.

I don't think twitter has anonymous asks...or asks at all. and having the audacity to create a social media account (!!!!!!!) doesn't mean that you deserve harassment and death threats from a bunch of jag-wagons who are upset about their stupid ship of all things

Of course it doesn't deserve harassment/death threats. Jesus dickshittng Christ. The POINT is that there are raging assholes in the world and you can protect yourself from them by refusing to engage in their shit, which includes social media!

You ever considered that social media is kind of an important career-advancement tool in this day and age? Especially for someone who works in a creative field?

this. actors/directors/whatever are often encouraged to join social media sites because it makes them seem more accessible to the fanbase of whatever piece of work they're trying to promote. for a lot of people, it's just part of their job.

So we shouldn't do anything that may put us in contact with anyone who may be an asshole because we must ~protect ourselves~ by... hiding all the time?

You can either choose to have social media and deal with the assholes, or you can choose not to. Why is this so hard to grasp? You can't have it both ways, because there will always be assholes. Does this suck? Yes! Is it shitty and unfair? YES! WOW at your lack of understanding of this basic fact of life, anon. Just wow.

Except you're the one missing the point.

Sites banning the assholes harassing others would be better than ~protect yourselves~ by not using social media sites. Doing something against them should be the normal thing instead of your "deal with it or leave".
