I'd have to watch these movies (I never have! I'm sorry! I have a limited tolerance for aliens bursting out of chests!) to really be able to comment, since it's a bit more complicated than "Woman is not wearing much clothing." It also depends on what she's doing, how she's moving, where she is in the shot and what else is going on, and generally what kind of gaze the camera presents us with. I mean, is a woman walking in her underwear just to get from A to B, or is she doing a ~*sexy*~ walk in her underwear? Is her butt the focus of the shot, or does it just show up in the background while she does stuff and the focus is elsewhere?

I'm not denying you're right (since I haven't seen the movies) but people may not interpret Ripley in her undies as sexy if the movie doesn't try to encourage that interpretation by having her act like she's posing for us or having the camera linger on certain parts of her body.

The chestbursting is pretty iconic, but honestly, you won't miss the plot by skipping that scene if it's not your cuppa. It's a good movie.

I think you have a good point here. The movies strongly imply that wearing only underwear in hypersleep is the standard practice. The top left picture is from Aliens, while all the other pictures come from the end of Alien. The scene in Alien consists of her preparing the sleep pod in the lifeboat and IMO, does not have her walking around in an overtly "sexy" manner. The Aliens scene (waking up when the ship gets to LB426) is even less sexual in behaviour.

Neither of these scenes ever struck me as "sexy", though credit where due, in Alien, the creature soon reveals that it's got onto the lifeboat, and the scene in Aliens the scene includes a dozen marines also waking up (with Ripley arguably depicted as having a more dignified recovery than most of them).

Sure, but... the answers to your rhetorical questions are right there in the secret. Do you think it's an accident we're seeing her ass as she bends over the instrument panel? Or that it's a huge coincidence we can see her nipples right through her t-shirt in the shot that all underboob? And in the big shot, that's not the camera encouraging the audience to appreciate her body?

These images are not at the ratio of the movie screen, so they have been cropped and the info on how the scene was framed and where Ripley's butt and bust fall on the frame is lost. It's the OP or whoever cropped these images who is inviting us to look at Ripley's body. Also missing is any sense of timing or movement. How long are these shots and how is Ripley moving in them?
