Queer people have had to spend an awful long time identifying with characters that are explicitly not queer and it's only now getting a lit~tle bit better so frankly I say OP can deal. Sad and frustrated? Jesus you fragile flowers.

I don't know. I don't think it has to be an adversarial thing. It's shitty for representation on both sides.

this is the most childish thing in the world tbh

What

Re: ITT: straight ppl crying

(Anonymous) 2016-08-15 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Doggedly insisting that the stakes of representation are as high for straight women as they are for gay women. It's simply not true and it's naive and petty at best.

Didn't mean to imply that. But I can understand why, even if the stakes are lower for straight women, it can still be frustrating and shitty.

Frustrating, yes. Shitty, not so much.

It's kind of like fat-shaming vs skinny-shaming. Both of them are wrong and harmful, but only one is constantly loudly repeated by media imagery and public mindset. It's not at the same level at all.

Well good for you because not being adversarial was certainly not what OP was going for, and that is mainly the reason why I don't think they deserve any defense. A reasonable expression of frustration this was not.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-15 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That's certainly possible.

Re: ITT: straight ppl crying

(Anonymous) 2016-08-16 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
since when do straight women need anymore representation??

Re: ITT: straight ppl crying

(Anonymous) 2016-08-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Since "classically" pretty white women are almost the only type of straight woman properly represented and other types (like, idk, straight WOC?) might like to see themselves in media too.

You sound pretty fragile yourself for being so upset about how she feels.

...is this seriously "I know you are but what am I"-level discourse? Lol.
