Re: ITT: literally no one knows what 'romanticization' means

And you think the other people who write non HTP non con and torture don't? They do, and they are, they just refuse to admit it. There's so.much. terrible, unhealthy fanfic out there in which Good Guy Heroes abuse, gaslight, control, and force sex on, other Good Guy Heroes and no one says "boo" about it. Meanwhile, the HTP's rapists and torturers are all, ALWAYS played by, like, actual canonical villains. You know villains, whose job it is to make the heroes miserable? It's completely IC for villains to torture people- you know- like they did to Bucky in CANON. Are you saying people can't write villains being villains? Like, they can't use the actions of terrible people in order to create and propel the plot? Or just when they're also using it to get off?

Did you hear that everyone? You're NOT ALLOWED TO WRITE ABOUT BAD THINGS IF IT MEANS YOU"RE DERIVING ANY SORT OF EMOTIONAL SATISFACTION FROM IT.

I'd rather read a fic about Brock Rumlow raping Bucky Barnes than read one about Steve Rogers raping Bucky (not under a spell or mind control or in a fuck or die situation but because he wants to or doesn't understand what he's doing). See the difference? One is HTP, one is absolutely NOT HTP (and also wildly OOC). There are some truly fucked up dynamics in non HTP fics. At least HTP is being honest about what they're there for.

In fact, there was tons of rapefic in the Marvel fandom *before* HTP started, some of the first fics I read on entering the fandom, again *before* HTP started, involved Bucky being raped and/or sex pollened by Hydra. This was pre Winter Soldier movie. PRE. So this element already existed. I mean have you seen the prompts on Avengerkink? They're not any better. It's just Tony and Clint getting subjected to all of that instead of Bucky or Steve.

All HTP does is admit that's what they're doing. And I find it bizarre that it's considered "disgusting" if the H/C torture fics are interpreted as intended for sexual arousal, but perfectly okay if they're just regular H/C not labeled HTP. Even if the story contains rape and/or abuse of a heroic character by a member of Hydra, described in graphic detail and followed by a comforting, romantic resolution with the ship of your choice. Which includes TONS of stories not labeled HTP. TONS AND TONS of them. People who read and write ordinary H/C not labeled HTP ARE essentially getting off on it too, they derive a sense of excitement over seeing a character go through terrible things and then be comforted by their lover. It's a kink too. They're getting off on it too.

There seems to be this weird, hazy dividing line between HTP and "H/C fic involving rape of a hero by a Hydra affiliated villain".

AYRT

I'm opposed to non-con and H/C in general, so your argument is moot.
