you know I've never really thought about it, but something you mentioned is something I see -so- often, which is "vers" in fandom being used as codeword for "will top for someone smaller than him, will bottom for someone bigger than him". why is it so rare or unheard of for fic writers that couple A and B might switch with -each other-, and not only "switching" if they're partnered with other coded masculine or feminine characters? bizarre.

overall I do agree I wish there was more variety in gay sex in fanfic, but I blame porn and society tbh. society has repeatedly drilled into everyone's brains that sex is not sex without penetration, so a lot of fic writers I think feel pressured into finishing their sex scenes with it. I know I've written frottage or fingering or other sex play and while finishing up the fic, even I felt like, "well, it doesn't feel finished yet" because almost all porn ends with penetration.
