Ships that you're suddenly nostalgic about?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-21 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I follow a number of blogs that on occasion post mech/human pairings and today I was reminded of Starscream and Alexis from Transformers Armada. I went to search for fic, but over the years most fics have been lost. There used to be lots of this pairing back in the mid 2000s.

What are some pairings you've been reminded of and how well represented are they now?

Occasionally I get nostalgic about Vegeta/Bulma but...the fanfic in that fandom isn't all that great. So I don't go back to it. :(

That sucks. Of course, there's also the factor of tastes changing and what one absolutely lovef in the younger days really doesn't hold up to ones current standards. That's certainly been the case with the SS/Alexis stuff.

Mulder and Scully, oh I miss the old X-Files.

David and Maddie, now that was a fun ride too.

Sam and Rebecca too, shame about Kirstie Alley being a religious lunatic.

They were the best ships.

Oh yes, Mulder and Scully! I was never in the X-files fandom, though. Only shipped the hard by my lonesome offline.

Where are the other pairings from? I want to say "Cheers" for the last one.

You don't know David and Maddie? It was the ship that supported an entire show, it may even have been the ship that made most people realize that relationships in tv shows were not just for soaps. And by most people I mean it cracked the mainstream big time.

But Sam and Rebecca is Cheers, yes. I liked her much better than Diane. Diane was way too flaky and slapstick, even for Cheers, to take seriously.

I've no idea what show they're from. That can be explained by the fact that I'm in Sweden and I've seldom had access to cable, plus that the networks here got a few foreign series and not right away. At least way back in my youth.

David & Maddie are from the 1985-1989 ABC series Moonlighting.

David Addison (Bruce Willis) and Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd). (They're my icon)

They were kind of like the original "Will they-won't they?" ship and have inspired relationship procedurals like Bones & Castle. That's why you might here discussion surrounding those shows about whether or not they'll fall victim to "Moonlighting syndrome" wherein the show's quality declines as soon as the characters get together because half the fun is the snark where they clearly want to but don't.

It wasn't so much they got together, it was that Cybill Shepherd became a mother and was too tired to keep doing the show, and Bruce Willis did a little movie about thieves taking over a tower block at Christmas and lost interest in the show too.

But yeah, the last season was lackluster. However no television show ever will top it for sheer sizzling on-screen sexuality.

Aw, I did see that series way back when I was a kid, but I don't remember much. Certainly not the characters' names. Moonlighting syndrome is a concept I'm aware of, though. I definitely caught the reference to it in the original TMNT movie.

I found Kirstie Alley so hard to take. She was such a bad actress I kept thinking Rebecca was lying.

I've been on a very nostalgic kick lately, actually.

Most of my recent nostalgia ships have been OCs from an original work though.

I lot of the ships I liked when I was 15/16, but am kind of embarressed about now. Sonny/Brenda and Craig/Manny were the bigs ones

What shows? I feel as if I should know them somehow, but probably more through pop culture osmosis than actually having seen it.

General Hospital and Degrassi.

One of the blogs I follow has had a resurgence of posting Batman/Wonder Woman posts recently and I've been all feelsy over them. I just love them so much.

Yeah, there is no turn on like a man getting his pelvis crushed and his penis destroyed by a woman who can punch through solid battleship armor bucking during an orgasm.

This is where you come up with alternative sex positions.

If she is going to have an orgasm, then there is literally no position Batman can take without suffering bodily injury.

Well she's been with Steve Trevor in the comics before now, who is a regular human, so I think Bruce will be fine.

UquiHime. Bleach recently ended, and I have the urge to look for fic again.

Sephiroth/Cloud, Sephiroth/Vincent, Sephiroth/Aerith, Sephiroth/Tifa, Kadaj/Cloud, Kadaj/Yazoo/Loz/Cloud, Rufus/Reno, Rufus/Tseng, Zack/Aerith, Cloud/Tifa... I usually get reminded when I come across an image from Advent Children or any info about the remake. Fandom back in 2005 was like a fever dream for FF7 shippers.
