When did all the harassing creators/staff/castmembers bullshit from fandom explode into a huge thing anyway?

When social media like Twitter became big and creators began making themselves more available to fans on it. Joke's on them for thinking they could give their fans a better fandom experience by being willing to chat about their work, I suppose!
