For years, it was always done by the same sculptor--the "Butter Cow Lady"--who recently passed on the job to a successor. After the fair, the butter is donated.

And I was wrong about some of my facts: the showcase for the Butter Cow is in the Ag building, and the butter isn't donated--it's frozen and reused from year to year. Apparently, the same butter can be used for up to 10 years, which is a good thing because just the cow takes about 600 pounds of butter.

Now I'm at a computer though, and wow! That is seriously impressive! It looks kinda gross too while they're sculpting but the end products are super clean-looking. I love it.
