Better question: what's so strong about her? All she seems to do is acquire powers that worked in one fight and then never again, get (understandably) punked in Soul Society, and then get kidnapped for Hueco Mundo. And pine for Ichigo's fjords in between. I'm not seeing an overwhelming amount of strength in there.

There are different types of strength, as someone said (actually on here) to a secret posted that was an opposite of 56 a few weeks ago. It's not all about gaining powers and kicking ass, sometimes being there for people and loving people is a greater strength than having a big sword.

What I find I like about her is that she ISN'T physically strong, yet wants to fight and work as hard as the other characters. This is what I like about Rukia as well. Rukia = not that physically and spiritually strong, yet her strength comes from other sources.

Sometimes inner strength and courage are just as good. Maybe not in a fight, but in the long run.

Yeah, and she's all well and fine for that, but she's not really anything special. Pretty much the entire cast of Bleach does that. She's not a weak character but she certainly doesn't qualify as the 'strongest character I've ever seen' unless you've not seen very many characters.

I also agree that she isn't THE strongest character, which I did point in my first comment [or at least meant to/thought that came through] but that's really no reason for anyone to think she's weak. I hear weak to describe her constantly, if not here then elsewhere, and that interpretation just makes me roll my eyes.

Oh, OK, I read your post as 'people disagreeing with secret 56, explain yourselves'. Because she's not a weak character, but I do disagree with secret 56, because she's not particularly noteworthy in that strength.

(I honestly think the prize should go to Nico Robin of One Piece just for surviving what she did, and at such an age. Physically and emotionally although it DID leave her sort of messed up)

:) I think one of the prizes can go to Dr. Girlfriend from Venture Brothers because to be honest, she is one of the most intelligent, savvy, in-control-and-sexy and amazing characters in the entire series. And also could kick your ass in hand-to-hand combat and doesn't NEED a man, yet sticks by her own. <3___<3 Has the pants, but wears a tiny skirt. I love her.

Yeah, Doctor Girlfriend is pretty rocking.

Actually, now that I think of it, a third prize should go to Nami, One Piece's other main female character. And Vivi, the former one. God, Oda is so much better at creating strong female characters than some people

JESUS CHRIST, IAWTC. I cannot read Naruto for that reason. I tried!

Re: 56

I read it entirely for the supporting cast. The female characters over there aren't quite as miserable failures as Sakura, and it contains ROCK LEE. But oh my god, the sexism coming off of his treatment of the female lead was palpable, and I'm usually very oblivious to that sort of thing.

I think both of them are strong, but aren't, say Youko Nakajima (The Twelve Kingdoms) in terms of development and inner growth, strength, etc.

But hay, shounen...
