Into Darkness gave a bigger role to a WOC character that Roddenberry tried to give a bigger role back during the original series and Bones did do a lot in his capacity as a doctor in the first couple films but sure, not preserving the holy trinity of three main white guys is such an outrage.

All Bones did in the first two films was make funny quips and stand in the background for 90% of the time.

And yeah, Uhura's expanded role as "Spock's girlfriend who gets into an argument with him during a very crucial time" was fantastic!

Also, movies can (or so I have heard) create enough screen time and good character development for more than three characters! Sometimes they can do it for even 5-6 characters! Shocking, I know.

And Beyond actually manages this, they did shit with the other crew members and that's why I fucking liked it, my biggest complaint with the movies up 'till this point was how the other characters had been completely side-lined for the Spock+Kirk show and they finally got away from that in this one.

Huh-fucking-zah.

Uhura did more than being just Spock's girlfriend (e.g, saving Spock and Kirk, facing the Klingons etc), saying otherwise is a sexist argument especially when she surely did more for the plot than Mccoy who us just kirk's friend (or someone listening to Spock or Kirk problems in stb) without anything that is just about him, and fans praise that and demand more of him interacting just with the main guys.

Darling, honey, sweetiepie. Do you understand that THAT is the thing people are mad about? That Bones didn't get much to do in the first two movies.

But really, remember this "fun" scene? https://youtu.be/9TiNVaz-h9U

This is a bad argument, duder

Yeah he complains and plays the victim too much. Mccoy was never Kirk or Spock level. I was very annoyed when he complained about Mccoy in stid while making the interview with John Cho, of all the people! How can he be a trek fan and not get it?

"Star Trek Triumvirate." Guess who is in that!

Ugh. Comments like these remind me why I avoid participating actively in the fandom. It's not about "three white guys", the fact that they are white and male has very little to do with it. For me, TOS was always about the friendship between them, their dynamics has always been my favorite part of the show. I love the reboot, but I do miss that bit quite a lot. The amount of screentime Uhura has been given shouldn't mean less screentime for McCoy. It's just disappointing that they've been keeping him in the background 90% of the time, since he's such a vital part of Star Trek.

Wow, are you being racist or what
