Well, the good news is, it's only one book, although one of the characters also appears in a shorter (and more lighthearted) book, Anansi Boys. Basically, if you like dark takes on mythology (all kinds of mythology) and don't mind reading long books, go for it. You can always toss it across the room before you finish.
