American Gods

I keep hearing about this show coming up. I've never read the books, but I'm interested in the show. But I'm thinking, should I read the books first or watch the show & then read the books?

I've read his writing style isn't for everyone. What do y'all say, fans?

I've read the book and I find Gaiman's writing style fairly accessible, nothing off-putting (except for one particular sex scene that's going to crop up in the show, so you're going to encounter it either way).

I'd be able to give you better advice if the show was airing and we had an idea of what it's like. Right now, read the books so you don't get spoiled while it's airing, I guess?

I started the book and couldn't get further than a chapter.

Well, the good news is, it's only one book, although one of the characters also appears in a shorter (and more lighthearted) book, Anansi Boys. Basically, if you like dark takes on mythology (all kinds of mythology) and don't mind reading long books, go for it. You can always toss it across the room before you finish.

It's a single book, and it's not THAT long. It's mostly just a question of whether you can deal with Gaiman's prose style, which isn't really the best.

So... try and read the first chapter and see what you think?

Your library probably has it. Check and see. If you don't like it then you can return it.

I love that book, but it is dense. Give it a try, if ya don't like it just wait for the show and watch that because the story itself is cooool as fuck.

Well, nobody's writing style appeals to everyone. All you can do is give it a try and decide if it's for you. I will say that American Gods is more serious and dramatic, while Anansi Boys is more comedic, so if you dislike the former, the latter might still work for you. They're apples and oranges.
