Same. It's part of the reason I hate this whole mess, because I totally agree with what they did, yet a childish/selfish part of me hates it. Another reason is that it's hard to find people who, like you, can see the difference between character and actor. People coming up with consipracy theories because he couldn't possibly be that bad because look how nice and that one Hotch scene was so meaningful...What?

I just hope they find a decent way to write Hotch off the show. Preferably without killing him. No idea how, but then I'm not a team of professional writers. I hope they don't take out their frustration with TG out on Hotch, that they realize we'd like a proper goodbye. And maybe just maaaaaaybe the possibility of a guest appearance in the future, even if it's just a cameo in the series finale.

I'm also sad we'll never get to see the season they had planned. It sounded pretty awesome. It also sounded pretty Hotch-centric, with Mr.Scratch being the big bad this time. So massive and sudden re-writes, that can't be good.

Guess we'll have to wait and see and hope for the best, I guess.

Seconding all of this, especially the parts about how this season could've been had Hotch stayed and writing a good exit for him. Course, in some ways, Mr. Scratch's return, as well as the events involving Hotch in last season's finale, could provide for a good setup/reason for Hotch to leave.

I think Jack could be our best chance at not having Hotch get killed off. Despite all the horrible things this show has put these characters through over the years, I just can't really see the show going so far as to make Jack an orphan. Gideon got a decent exit in season 3 even after everything with Patinkin, so...

(Mind, I know how the show handed officially writing off Gideon once and for all in season 10*, but even then, he didn't have a young son like Hotch does-Gideon's son is full grown. And Patinkin had made it abundantly clear he had no desire to come back. Provided/assuming Gibson hasn't burned, or won't totally burn, any bridges with the cast and crew, they could, like you note, find a way to leave the door open just in case they all sort this out and make amends down the line.)

*Honestly, though, even that storyline was still pretty respectful to Gideon and his legacy, both professional and personal. At least, I thought so.

Yes, IA completely.

Mr.Scratch is a good opportunity. I've seen it suggested that Hotch could maybe disappear/be kidnapped and then we could have an arc trying to find him. Of course, then it would have to end either with his death or with TG for a few scenes. But even just another scary moment for Jack like the one in the finale might be a good reason to leave. I just don't know how they're going to manage that one without Hotch himself there.

And yes, I think if they don't kill him off Jack would probably be why. When Shemar Moore left they talked about how they didn't want to do anything too sad because they had killed Gideon the year before. That's still true, and Morgan left, and it would make Jack an orphan.

It probably does depend on what exactly went on behind the scenes. Obviously TG threatening to sue doesn't help, but so far I don't think he's actually done it yet, so who knows. But if the situation's not too bad I'd think they'd want to leave the door open for guest spots. They might not want him around all the time, but he'd bring ratings/viewers/press each time, so that's something they'd have to consider.

HAS Gibson actually threatened to sue? Keep in mind that retaining lawyers isn't the same thing as actually threatening a lawsuit and that's all I've heard of so far. Regardless of right or wrong, Gibson's getting fired. He needs legal representation to protect his interests and getting a lawyer shouldn't be interpreted as this sinister threat.

I honestly don't know. There hasn't been any kind of official statement. I think I read something about 'exploring the possibility'. Though that could be conjecture by whatever reporter or even 'source' they had. I think people are inclined to believe it because it was all so sudden and there are all these rumors about the incident that got him fired. Frankly, I usually don't care about celebrity drama, but since this is messing with my show/fandom, I want to know wtf happened.
