Yeah, see, I'm the same as you - I ship characters romantically much more than sexually, even if I have a "bicycle" type character. I was trying to see where OP was coming from, though (but I could be wrong!).

And to be fair, often when you have a fandom bicycle character, I can see where they'd feel that people aren't really investing in the relationships.
But then, you see that in juggernaut pairings too, where people just take it as obvious that the characters will be together, and don't bother building relationships properly.

LOL, yeah, hopefully OP can chime in soon to clarify things!

But agreed on all of what you said. And juggernaut pairings also run the risk of having the same types of stories written about them over and over and over and over, to the point where they don't bother to explore any other facets of the relationship that could be as equally interesting to write about, or that could be used to try and entice new fans.
