It's like they hope if they keep treating it like a myth and stating it as fact, It Was Actually About Ethics In Movie Casting, people will start believing it?

Which sadly does have some truth to it. I've seen studies that humans are designed to value quantity over quality when it comes to information gathering, so if 20 random people at a music festival tell you drinking cold water causes heart disease, one cardiologist going "Bullshit" is 1 vs. 20, we'd have to hear it from 21 cardiologists before we valued the information as more important than the 20 music festival fans' information. (See also how your aunt or uncle believes the ten friends posting that Bill Gates will donate a million dollars to everyone who forwards this e-mail on facebook, vs. the one debunking site pointing out that it's stupid and impossible)
