They deleted any comments that criticized it for legitimate reasons and paraded around the (far fewer) sexist comments as though they were the only possible reason anybody could ever dislike it. They were telling feminists that they were misogynists because heaven forbid they didn't give a woman-led movie full marks.

Nobody has said that there wasn't actual sexism or racism. But when comments that are down on something that DON'T contain those vile elements are RECORDED to have been deleted, then you can't seriously keep up the narrative that there was no legitimate complaint.

But Actually It Is About Ethics In Youtube Commenting.

This may surprise you, but two different, yet related, problems can exist at the same time. In any given situation there is not One Problem to Rule Them All.

There are absolutely legitimate complaints and even the people who enjoyed it aren't by and large saying it's a perfect movie, but there was a RIDICULOUS level of negative backlash that went far beyond any "legitimate complaints" and that's where this push-back is coming from. Regardless of said legitimate complaints, regardless of how little anyone liked the movie, it was not THAT bad, and in particular one of its lead actresses has been receiving horrific abuse for no other reason than having been in a movie. I don't give a damn about "legitimate criticism" when the supposed minority is behaving atrociously and others are citing a conspiracy (yes, I get it, it's documented, but it's still a conspiracy theory in defense of a ridiculous amount of negativity for a middle-grade summer remake that didn't deserve that treatment)

So then why did Sony try to cover it up and present the narrative that ALL backlash or dislike was based in sexism and nothing else? Why would they delete the comments about the actual subject matter?

That's a conspiracy all right but only on Sony's part. Who knows what the true ratio really is. And considering the track record for people who claim this level of harassment, I wonder how many comments they planted.

I literally do not care what the conspiracy is because its stars being horribly harassed is more of an important issue than any "legitimate complaints" on a mediocre movie in Youtube comments. That is my point. The actual subject matter? Not the issue.
