I could use some!

Re: Advice

My advice is a hot shower. Doesn't matter what the situation is, a hot shower usually does some good.

Re: Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-08-26 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless the situation is heat stroke. :O

Re: Advice

SHIT ur right

I amend my advice to: either a hot shower or a cool drink of water

Re: Advice

Cold shower >>>>>> warm shower

Twenty minutes in a sauna followed by a brisk dip in a freezing lake and twenty lashes with a birch switch.

So years ago, I had two online friends I'll call Mary and Jane. We were all quite close, but Mary and Jane were always exceptionally close. They were almost like long lost twins or something.

Anyway, I have since drifted from both - not for any drastic reasons, just life being what it is. As far as I can tell from Facebook, though, Mary and Jane still seem pretty close.

I just read that Jane actually had to have cancer surgery. At first they thought it was benign, but apparently it wasn't. It's nothing that can't be cured, but she is still in the hospital.

I can't help but wonder about Mary, just because of how close they are, and I'm considering sending her a PM to see how she's holding up. Would that be weird? It's not like Mary and I haven't spoken at all, we just generally stick to brief PM exchanges. At the same time, it's not like we're still close, and I'm also not sure what exactly to say. Maybe just send a nice note letting her know I'm also thinking of her? Or should I just leave it?

Let her know you're thinking about her. It won't hurt. It won't be weird. People need to know they have support in tough times, even if they won't really end up doing anything about it.

That sounds like a very thoughtful thing to do! I bet she'd appreciate it. Maybe just "I heard about Jane's surgery and I wanted to check in to see how you were doing"? Idk that it would need to be a very complex message.

Thanks for the advice, guys! After typing it I realized was overthinking it and messaged my friend. :)

Brush and floss your teeth every day, wear sunscreen, eat your vegetables, and cut back on the caffeine, sugar, and red meat.

I hope this helps.

actually the Scientists have decided that flossing doesn't do jackshit *flips u off while riding my unicycle backwards into the sun*

Yes, I saw that study.

Problem is, there isn't that much experimental data to back either position up.

I'm pretty sure that removing decaying food from between your teeth is probably good for you at least in terms of your breath. Also removing the source of bacteria from spaces where it's trapped is good for gum health, at least it was for me. My gums are way healthier (and I haven't had any more between-teeth cavities) since I started flossing daily.

Re: Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-08-27 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I brush thoroughly, but I always pull lots of crap out from between my teeth when I floss after. Considering where all of my cavities are, not flossing enough is definitely a problem.

Re: Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-08-27 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I got a gum infection from not flossing so I'm not buying this.

So I hit a depressive slump a few months ago and gained some of the weight I'd managed to lose back.

I'm just now slowly crawling out of my slump--what advice would you give me regarding getting back on the losing weight wagon?

Baby steps. Don't try to do too much all at once or you'll just relapse into bad habits.

Remember, it's a lifestyle change, not a diet. You're in it for the long haul. Do things that you find comfortable and sustainable, like cutting back on soda, taking the stairs, walking or biking to school or work... that sort of thing.

Make habits that make you feel good about yourself.

I have swollen ankles, presumably because of heat. Any home remedies?

Elevate your feet and drink some strong black tea as a natural diuretic. Try to cut back on the salt content in your food, although that can be a difficult prospect.

Legs-up-the-wall; brew yourself a strong cup of fresh parsley tea and drink it with lemon.
