Inspired by #8

What trope/pairing/whatever do you like in a way that you can't find or isn't popular?

I love/would love arranged marriage stories where they don't end up discovering they're each other's true loves, but do end up becoming basically best friends who have an excellent emotional relationship and support each other having outside lovers, and most importantly stay the focus of the story. I've seen it happen as a background to set up one of the outside lovers as the true love, and I don't want that. I want stories about the two people in the marriage building a life and a friendship around it.

I'd like one where they prove to be the perfect political power couple.

I have never thought about an arranged marriage scenario this way, and now I totally want to see it.

Also inspired by #8: an ABO fic focused on what, exactly, betas think of all this shit. Or one focused on a B/B, A/B, or B/O pairing.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-27 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Is anyone ever a beta in these stories anyway? The "B" part of ABO seems to get utterly ignored in fics. Or at least in the ones I've happened to read.

I'm not even sure what the beta in ABO is supposed to do...

I really like the idea of Levi/Mikasa from SNK. It's not my favorite pairing for either character, but I definitely see the appeal. They get under each other's skin, they challenge each other, and they seem to understand the other. But all the fic is about how Levi see's Mikasa as this perfect, amazing, flawless, human being and how no one else ~appreciates her.

So, I read Gone With the Wind when I was a kid. This was in the 1980s, "shipping" was not a concept as such and the term had not been invented yet, but I really, really liked the interactions between Rhett Butler and Melanie Wilkes. (I still have my copy of the book I read, where I folded up the bottom corners of all the pages where Rhett says or does something sweet and respectful to Melanie.) Their relationship in the book was absolutely perfect and the way I want it always to remain -- completely chaste, he adores her and treats her with the utmost respect, she mothers him just as she mothers everyone and he lets her, and he is [spoiler for an 80-year-old book!]devastated by her death[/end spoiler].

I would looooove to read a long multi-chapter fic that was focused on the two of them but kept this relationship exactly as-is.

H/c where the c doesn't solve anything. At all. Maybe it actively makes the problem worse, because that person doesn't know how to really help.

You know, like most efforts in real life.

I'd tend to look more for that kind of thing in angst or tragedy fics rather than h/c. Particularly the latter. H/c is mostly about the comfort for me, though, so I'd be looking for it to work or at least momentarily help. People trying to help and failing is something I associate more with angst and/or death fics.

Yes, but I am a whimsical god, and I never give my readers exactly what they want. That would be too easy.

It doesn't necessarily have to be angst and woe and terrible, but I can't stand things being wrapped up neatly. Life doesn't wrap up neatly. Happy endings are bullshit.

Yes. Or I quite like H/C where the C kind of helps a little, but the problems are still there because real hurt and trauma takes a long time to heal.

Yes. Exactly this.

Hurt/comfort where an adult cares for a teen/young adult. The comfort should absolutely not be sexual and the hurt need not be phyical. I just really love parental figures, whether actually parents or not. Bonus if the two are unrelated. Examples: Isaac and any of the big 3 Teen Wolf parents, Scotty and Jayla in Star Trek Beyond, and if you want to go old-school, Belding and Zack from Saved by the Bell. Or, you know. Harry Potter and anybody

Love triangles where the hypotenuse isn't irredeemably evil (and the love inerest isn't utterly spineless because why else would they be dating someone like that) and the issue gets solved like adults. Though a little drama is alright.

Healthy polyamory that isn't all about sex.

Deaging fic where the character stays a kid.

Epic romance with very chill or mundane ending.

I'm a big fan in general of dominants bottoming and submissives topping. But I don't find it too often, and I've only seen it once with any of my current main pairings.

I'm also a big fan of submissives being more experienced than their dominants or just being the ones actively coming up with ideas they want to try and asking their dominant for them. My fandom has a lot of at least dubcon stuff where the submissive goes along with what the dominant wants but they aren't necessarily the things the submissive wants. I just want more submissives as active participants. Being submissive doesn't mean someone is an innocent virgin and doesn't mean they don't have ideas or ask for things.

I'm also a fan of noisy tops. Really, I'm just a fan of consistency. Someone who is noisy is going to be noisy regardless of position, and someone who isn't noisy isn't going to suddenly become noisy just because they are bottoming for the first time.

All of this.

Also service tops who get off on getting their partner off.

All of this. I love it when the sub is an active participant. Being sexuallysubmissive doesn't mean that someone is a doormat. I'd also love more fic where there's a genuine mutual affection and respect between the dom and sub.

Perry/Doofenshmirtz in a way that doesn't change their species (and is biologically accurate).
It's annoyingly difficult to find :c
