Re: yesterday, I was in the middle of posting when my computer died and I couldn't save the HTML. Again if you submitted a secret last week and you don't see it up by Friday, please resubmit it. Really sorry about that.

Re: copyright stuff, EDITED: WE HAVE A RESPONSE but it sucks, basically.

45- It's not a hoax, he's a transgender half way though changing.

It baffles me how confused people get about it.

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Me to. It's not very complicated once you get past the blaring head lines. I think the imagery is confusing a lot of people, to be honest. They just can't computer pregnacy and facial hair...it's interesting to watch.

He's not halfway through at all - he transitioned seven (I'm sure that's the number) years ago. Somehow the uterus stayed functional despite the T (many FTMs opt to have it all scooped out), and he made the decision with his wife to carry their child.

[identity profile] yume-no-kage.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's normally not as simple as stopping the testosterone and bingo, you can get pregnant. But I'd like to hope they were lucky in that respect.

(Anonymous) 2008-04-10 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not to butt in, but considering your last sentence I just wanted to let you know that the second pregnancy seems to be going well according to articles.

The first, he wound up pregnant with triplets, and lost them.

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
...ok? If you're trying to defend the rights r dignity or whatever of a transgender person, you're REALLY barking up the wrong tree. I'm sure there are plenty of place where there's a discussion going that you reaction is needed.

[identity profile] 3libras.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think anon is just correcting you, not attacking you or necssarily "defending the rights or dignity or whatever of a transgender person"

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably since they didn't come back. My snark was a combo of bad mood and anon usually meaning asshole.

[identity profile] calophi.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a hoax in that the media is purposely phrasing things to portray him as biologically a male, but really it's still female reproductive organs that are carrying the baby. A lot of people are confused about it because they're not intelligent enough to read past the headlines. -_-

[identity profile] olivetti250.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's beautiful, personally. His wife and he want a child but she is unable to carry one due to her own biological issues, and considering the discrimination against queer people (he isn't gay, but he is transgendered, and technically that's still considered 'queer') in the adoption process, it was EASIER for him to keep pushing to get pregnant for his wife's sake.

That's love right there. When your daddy carries you because your mom can't, and puts up with national outrage, bullshit, and discrimination to do it. DAD OF THE CENTURY.

[identity profile] kaatsu.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
This is the best comment I've seen on this story. :) Their story really is lovely.

[identity profile] asouthernthing.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
IAWTC. I really want to send this man and his wife flowers or a fruit basket or a baby gift or something because he has made my black little heart warm and fuzzy.

[identity profile] calophi.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I agree that it is a beautiful thing for him to do. But surely he could have kept down the publicity - the national outrage etc is entirely his fault. Oprah indeed!

This entire thing is also extremely interesting from a psychological standpoint, and I'd love to see some sort of proper documentary on gender roles and how it might feel for someone of the male gender to be pregnant.

HOWEVER. When someone sees "pregnant man" they think physical, and since it's technically correct the media can get away with not being as accurate with their headlines as they should be, and the ignorant masses of humanity are too stupid or lazy to get proper details. That's the part of this that I'm pissed about.

[identity profile] 3libras.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
A woman on my friends list has a non-transitioning (to my knowledge) FTM husband who carried their child because she was having difficulty conceiving. She said that her husband's pregnancy was kind of difficult for him because he had to deal with and accept his female body. Certainly interesting! I'd also like to see a documentary on this.

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
True, they're milking it for everything it's worth (Then again, going on Oprah isn't exactly the best was not to draw attention to yourself, but I have read enough on it to know if there was some reason they felt they needed to do that)

[identity profile] manda-babylon.livejournal.com 2008-04-11 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think they went on Oprah, because if you do that, you become the person Oprah met with, hung out with, and cared about in the eyes of the general populace, as opposed to being viewed as a freak by huge prejudiced chunks of the populace. Oprah is powerful, and her reach is tangible. If she likes you, it provides a level of safety that you unfortunately may not have otherwise.

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-04-11 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I do see your point, but on the other hand, had they NOT gone to Oprah, they would have had just a few months of other people evening knowing there was something abnormal going on.

I do understand the danger, and I can understand them doing it for that reason, my choice just woulda been to...not. Then again if they were already somehow having attention force on them, going to Oprah might have been better...on the whole it's the kinda thing I would have to research way more then I care to to have a valid opinion on.

[identity profile] penguinfaery.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Got the point across. It was aimed at someone who couldn't figure out it wasn't actually a man having baby.
